Optodot at the Forefront of Battery Development

Optodot Corporation has added a cutting‐edge U.S. patent to its portfolio of more than 90 pending and issued battery patents worldwide. This new IP is directed to Optodot’s NanoPore® Electrode Coated Separator (ECS) technology, defining an advanced design and manufacturing option for next‐generation batteries. With ECS, electrodes—for example, lithium metal anodes—are directly deposited onto the separator to form a separator/electrode stack. 

Optodot Obtains New U.S. Patent for Separators

On October 6, 2020, the United States Patent and Trademark Office granted Optodot a new patent entitled “Separators for Electrochemical Cells.”  This patent, U.S. Pat. No. 10,797,288, is directed to separators and batteries comprising separators, including, for example, “a porous separator for an electrochemical cell, the separator comprising: a hydrated aluminum oxide; and an organic polymer that is covalently bonded to at least a portion of said hydrated aluminum oxide.” 

Optodot Corporation Obtains New U.S. Patent for Advanced Battery Design and Manufacturing

On May 12, 2020, Optodot was granted a new patent entitled “Lithium batteries utilizing nanoporous separator layers.”  This patent, U.S. Pat. No. 10,651,444, covers an advanced design and manufacturing process for lithium ion batteries.

Optodot Obtains New U.S. Patent

On August 13, 2019, Optodot Corporation was granted a new patent entitled “Nanoporous Separators for Batteries and Related Manufacturing Methods.”  The patent, U.S. Pat. No. 10,381,623, covers functional treatments of the separator to improve the cycle life performance of lithium metal batteries by inhibiting dendrite growth.

Organic solar cells offer lower cost materials compared to traditional inorganic solar cells. Optodot holds patents covering organic photovoltaic cells with new electron donor and hole transport materials.  These materials are strongly infrared absorbing and convert sunlight to electricity in the ultraviolet, visible, and infrared regions. Electrode Coated Separators

Optodot’s Electrode Coated Separator technology, funded by the DOE, aims to reduce the cost of manufacturing lithium ion batteries and the cost of the inactive components by 20-40%, while improving their safety, lifetime, and energy and power density, by incorporating new, inactive components of separator, current collectors, and termination materials, and by utilizing a simpler and faster battery assembly process. Learn more >>
